Built by English Electric was a prototype that inspired British Railways to buy 22 similar locomotives to become there legendary British Railways Class 55


HistoryEdit

Armed with it's Napier Deltic engine that gave it it's name it was seen on the London Midland Region of BR it was then sent to the Settle and Carlisle route for extensive testing. It was withdrawn in 1961 after a serious powerplant failure, fortuently by this time the Class 55 Deltics were in production and starting to apear. At this point plans to test the locomotive in Canada fell through and it was donated to the Science Mueseum in London. It now belongs to the National Railway Museum and is in the Shildon based Locomotion.
