History

Truly LMS origin the 08 was built at Crewe, Darlington, Derby and Doncaster between 1953 and 1962.

The class lasted a rather long time as even though there were withdrawals of the class from 1967 - 1990s EWS still inherrited most of the class when British Railways went private. Despite many preserved railways owning one in 2008 EWS had more than 40 working on main line shunting and had even more of them stored away. Other companies that used them included Freightliner, Mendip Rail, Foster Yeoman and Corus.
